The Title Requests tool is found in the My Titles section of your dashboard. You can use this tool to review and manage all pending title requests that have been submitted by your students and faculty over the previous 90 days.
To see a full record of requests beyond the past 90 days, click on Export History. Requests older than 90 days cannot be managed within the Title Request tool.
The following details and actions are available through the Title Requests tool. Please keep in mind that the actions available for each title will vary according to your Kanopy platform's program type, as well as the status of the package to which a title belongs.
- Date Requested: A date range will appear if there was a previous request for this title.
- Video Title
- Supplier
- Requested By: An aggregate number of total requests for this title.
- Faculty/Instructor flag: Any titles that received requests from faculty or instructors will be flagged.
- View Details: Click on View Details to see requester details. See Title Request Details below for more information.
- Actions: All actions require a confirmation step.
- Approve: Approving a request will automatically notify the requester(s) and remove the request from your dashboard. There are two ways to approve a title request:
- Add to Cart: Purchase a license for this title and add it to your cart. Choose whether to send a note to the requester and add a note in addition to the standard email message. A preview of the email that will be sent to all requesters appears to the right. Uncheck the Requester will be notified checkbox and the system takes no further action.
- Add to PDA: Add to your institution’s PDA discovery. Choose whether to send a note to the requester(s) and add a note in addition to the standard email message. A preview of the email that will be sent to all requesters appears to the right. Uncheck the Requester will be notified checkbox and the system takes no further action.
- Deny: You can deny a title request using either of two methods:
- Decline: Declining a request will automatically notify the requester and remove the request from your dashboard. Use the comment box to clarify why your library might want to decline a request or provide the requestor with alternate sources. Please note that declining requests will always trigger notifications that alert the requester(s).
- Delete: Remove a title request without taking further action or messaging the requester(s). The requester(s) will not receive a notification when librarians choose the delete action.
- Approve: Approving a request will automatically notify the requester(s) and remove the request from your dashboard. There are two ways to approve a title request:
Title Request Details
To view details regarding a title request, click on View Details from the main dashboard. You'll see a breakdown of each request that has been made the title.
The following information is available through the Title Request Details page:
- Video Title
- Supplier
- Year
- Date of Request
- Requester's Name
- Role
- Course Number
- Reason for request
You can Export Details to see a full history of past and current requests for a given title title. Individual requests marked "N/A" when viewed through your exported history are legacy requests.
Automatic Email Notifications
When you approve or decline title requests, we will automatically notify your requesters of the action taken from the dashboard. Additionally, you can use the Title Request Details page for a given title to contact requesters manually, if you prefer.
Email notifications will be sent automatically to requesters every hour after an approval or decline action is performed.
Can I see a preview of the automatic email notifications?
Below are previews of the emails that will be sent to your patrons when you Approve or Decline a title request:

Can I turn off the automatic email notifications?
Yes. When you approve a request, uncheck the Requester will be notified checkbox and the system will not notify requester(s) that a request has been approved. When you deny a request, you can select Delete to bypass sending a notification to requesters.
Can I customize the automatic email notifications?
Yes. When you Add to Cart, Add to PDA, or Decline a request, you can customize your response to a title's requester(s). A preview of the email that requester(s) will receive is shown to the right.
If you would prefer not to send notifications through Kanopy to your requesters through the dashboard, you can contact them separately using the requester's details as provided through the dashboard. See Title Request Details above.
