The Title Curation tool allows you to mediate and exclude titles in your catalog.
To enable access to this tool, contact firstname.lastname@example.org; it requires set-up from our team.
Once enabled, you should see an updated message at the top with access to the Title Curation tool:
Curate a Video Title
- Search for a title or Kanopy ID
- Under "Type of action", select mediation or exclusion
- Under "Reason for Curation", provide a reason for curating this title
- Click "Add to Curation List" to load the title into your curation list
- Finally, click "Validate All Changes" to activate the new title status
Note: After loading the title in the curation list, you must "Validate All Changes" for the changes to take effect. If you still see your titles in the curation list, you haven't submitted the title curations yet.
Types of Actions
- Mediation: Add this title to be discoverable by your users, but require further approval via the title request form. (See also: What is Mediation?)
- Exclusion: Add this title to be excluded from discoverability and restrict viewing by your users. (See also: What is Exclusion?)
I got the message, "This title is not part of a subscribed package for your library. Please contact email@example.com for assistance." What do I do?
This title is currently not part of a subscribed package for your library. Mediations and exclusions can only apply to titles that are part of a subscribed package at your library. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org to connect with one of our dedicated Collection Workflow Consultants to assist you with your request.
Do I need to be on a PDA program to use this tool?
No - while this tool is primarily designed to help our Smart PDA customers easily manage individual title access, being on a PDA program is not a prerequisite. More importantly, the title you're trying to exclude or mediate must be part of a subscribed content package found under "Packages".
If you need further assistance with your request, please contact email@example.com to speak with one of our dedicated Collection Workflow Consultants.
What is Mediation?
For PDA customers, mediation allows greater control over which titles are watched on your platform. A mediated title will continue to be discoverable by your students and professors, but requires a Title Request to be submitted first for your consideration. It's a powerful way to ensure that only the titles that your professors and students specifically need access to will be available for viewing. (See also How do I manage my Title Requests?)
What is Exclusion?
For PDA customers, exclusion completely restricts title access on your platform. An excluded title will no longer be discoverable by your students and professors, and will block access to the video player. As excluding content can drastically minimize a patron-driven model, we highly recommend you use mediation as a way to control access instead of exclusions. For additional information about exclusions, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
