Many films on Kanopy include public performance rights (PPR) at no additional cost. You can screen films that have PPR in group programming that doesn't charge admission. These rights extend to the film title and any images from our website that you want to use to advertise the screening, as long as source credit is given to Kanopy.
If you'd like to hold a virtual screening, viewers need to log in to Kanopy individually so that their library membership can be verified. Instead, you may want to consider watching the movie separately, then meeting up for virtual Q&A or discussion.
Finding PPR rights for an individual film
You can see if a film has public performance rights from your library's Kanopy admin account. After logging in to the Kanopy website with your library's admin credentials, find the film's title details page.
If a film has public performance rights, you'll see a "PPR" icon next to its runtime.
Films without this icon do not have PPR and can't be used for group programming.
Filtering search results to only films with PPR
To search for films that have public performance rights:
- Log in to the Kanopy website with your library's admin account.
- Run a search.
- In the "Public Performance Rights" drop-down on the left side of the results page, select PPR Available.
