Frequently asked questions
Are Public Performance Rights available for major studio content?
Some major studio content is available with Public Performance Rights (PPR). Learn how to check if a film has PPR.
If my library opts out of $4 major studio content, will those films be visible (but inaccessible) to our patrons?
No. If you opt out of major studio content, those films won't be discoverable on your Kanopy platform.
How often will major studio content change?
Titles will be refreshed quarterly. Some titles will only be available for a part of a quarter while others will span multiple quarters, depending on our agreement with a studio. We try to keep films available on our platform for as long as possible, but underperforming films will likely be removed as new ones become available.
Will you provide regular updates about what major studio content is being added or removed?
Yes! Stay subscribed to our emails for these updates.
How will patrons know whether they have 48 or 72 hours to watch a title?
Patrons can see the number of hours remaining until their play credit expires on the My Lists page under Continue Watching.
Can patrons view a film as many times as they'd like over the 48 hours?
Yes.
Can my library limit the number of credits patrons can use for major studio content, similar to how we limit Great Courses?
Not at this time, but we are considering this idea.
Do you have a list of all major studio content available on Kanopy?
Yes. Please contact your account representative for details. If you don't know who your account representative is, please contact us to find out.
If my library has opted out of major studio content, will any of those films be promoted in the weekly Kanopy emails sent to my patrons?
No. If your library has opted out of major studio content, those films won't be included in the weekly emails.
Does this new content or pricing affect Kanopy Kids?
No, Kanopy Kids isn't affected.
Will US-only content be blocked from libraries in other regions so that patrons don't see it?
Yes. Patrons will only see titles that are available to them.
Will Kanopy still inform us when we are approaching our spending limits?
Yes. This is an automated process that will not be impacted.
